Dr. HarPaz has been involved with martial arts since his youth. As a teenager, he studied Judo for three years, and for the past 23 years has been seriously engaged in the study and practice of Isshinryu Karate. Always learning and developing, he is currently a 4th degree black belt.
He believes that the practice of martial arts which focuses on a person’s body, breathing, and spirit and energy is very much in line with the penultimate in psychotherapy work. For him, he has found that strength building, movement and the spiritual calming of martial arts to be restorative and healing. He is able to use his own experiences in this realm to incorporate martial arts in various ways with some of his therapy work with patients. Many martial arts techniques concentrate on focusing, breathing, movement, grounding and posture, all of which can be very transformative for his patients as part of their psychotherapeutic experience.
